Already use Nix? Follow <a href=\"\/id\/3046\">Use the Nix development shell<\/a>. Choose one route; you do not need all three.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Get the source<\/h2>\n<p>In a terminal, move to the directory where you keep projects, then run:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"notranslate\"><code class=\"notranslate language-sh\">git clone https:\/\/github.com\/zotonic\/zotonic.git\ncd zotonic\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>This gets the development branch used by this guide. If you need a released version, get its source from the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zotonic\/zotonic\/releases\">Zotonic releases<\/a> and follow instructions for that release. Do not mix an existing native build with a container build; use separate checkouts.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Install and start<\/h2>\n<p>Open your chosen installation page above and follow it until <code>bin\/zotonic status<\/code> reports a running node. Container users run Zotonic commands <strong>inside the container shell<\/strong>; native users run them in this checkout.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Make it yours<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/id\/2914\">Create your first site<\/a>, log in to its admin, then <a href=\"\/id\/2915\">change its home-page template<\/a>. The example is a small blog named <code>garden<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>You are done with the first run when the site opens in your browser and your own text appears after a template edit.
