[05:50:06] <Andreas Stenius> Hi Jarimatti :)
[05:50:07] Arjan leaves the room
[05:50:26] <Jarimatti> Hi Andreas!
[05:50:33] <Andreas Stenius> I'm guessing you're from Finland, right?
[05:50:47] <Andreas Stenius> (solely based on your name :p )
[05:50:51] <Jarimatti> Yes, the surname (-nen) tells a lot. ;)
[05:51:02] <Andreas Stenius> indeed
[05:52:13] <Jarimatti> I would guess that you could be from Sweden?
[05:52:38] <Andreas Stenius> spot on :)
[05:52:57] <Andreas Stenius> but I have a vein of Finnish, too.. :p
[05:53:14] <Andreas Stenius> (don't speak any, though :/ )
[05:53:16] <Jarimatti> All the better. :)
[05:53:42] <Jarimatti> That you have a vein of Finnish, I mean.
[05:53:52] <Jarimatti> I don't mind if you don't speak Finnish. :)
[05:54:17] <Andreas Stenius> just as as a heads up in case you'd toss some Finnish at me :p
[05:54:37] <Jarimatti> Nej, men kanske en litet svenska?
[05:54:43] <Andreas Stenius> also as I've not setup a Finnish irc channel for z-bot to work in...
[05:54:57] <Andreas Stenius> det fungerar för mig :)
[05:55:19] <Andreas Stenius> z+bot seems to have logged out, though... hmm
[05:55:29] <Andreas Stenius> oh, wrong keyboard layout
[05:55:35] <Andreas Stenius> z-bot*
[05:55:43] <Jarimatti> :D
[05:55:53] <Jarimatti> The layout gets me every time!
[05:56:02] <Andreas Stenius> those pesky åäö
[05:56:13] <Jarimatti> Our (fin, swe) layout sucks for programming C-style languages.
[05:56:15] <Andreas Stenius> that's the only reason to switch to a Swedish layout..
[05:56:19] <Andreas Stenius> yeah
[05:56:33] <Andreas Stenius> finger benders
[05:57:12] <Jarimatti> Yup. []{} are a lot easier on English layout.
[05:57:58] <Andreas Stenius> you got it :) and also @ \ /
[05:58:22] <Jarimatti> Ah, those too. Esp. \ is difficult on a Mac keyboard.
[05:58:55] <Andreas Stenius> heh, yeah the Mac layout is even worse.. altough I'm rarely on a Mac..
[05:59:01] <Jarimatti> By the way, about Zotonic page editing etc.: I've used Concrete5 (http://www.concrete5.org) in one project and I really liked the editing interface.
[05:59:12] <Andreas Stenius> cool
[06:00:25] <Jarimatti> My clients are usually individual entrepeneurs or small businesses, who are not that much into computers & content management. With that system in edit mode you just click the section of the page you want to edit and off you go.
[06:01:03] <Jarimatti> If I have time (yeah, right...) I'd like to try something similar in Zotonic.
[06:01:46] <Jarimatti> Naturally Concrete5 is dog slow when compared to Zotonic. :)
[06:02:10] <Andreas Stenius> heh :)
[06:02:29] <Andreas Stenius> but they seem to have pretty nifty features, design wise..
[06:02:48] <Jarimatti> Yup. ;)
[06:04:41] yashshah joins the room
[06:05:02] <Jarimatti> A friend (not very computer literate) can manage with Zotonic, but did use other, more religiosly colored, name when she had trouble adding images to a page.
[06:05:18] <Jarimatti> :)
[06:06:23] <Andreas Stenius> heh..
[06:06:48] <Andreas Stenius> I feel the admin interface is, well for admins. We still lack a proper end-user editing interface
[06:07:24] <Jarimatti> Yes, spot on. I'd like to vote for Concrete 5 style end-user editing as one option.
[06:07:25] <Andreas Stenius> but it's on our todo-list to improve the editing experience :)
[06:08:55] <Jarimatti> Btw, I do know enough Erlang and PostgreSQL to be dangerous but unfortunately my time is limited.
[06:09:19] <Jarimatti> Meaning that I'd like to help with that if possible for me.
[06:10:15] <Andreas Stenius> any help much appreciated :)
[06:11:19] <Jarimatti> I'm new to the Github: should I just fork Zotonic and then start testing/working on something in my own fork?
[06:11:39] <Andreas Stenius> that's a good idea, yes
[06:12:13] <Andreas Stenius> also, if you push a fix for something non-trivial, it is usually a good idea to push it to a branch other than master (in you fork)
[06:12:30] <Andreas Stenius> that way it will be easier to work with when opening a pull request
[06:12:43] <Andreas Stenius> then you can also have more than one pull open at a time.. ;)
[06:12:51] <Jarimatti> Ok, thanks. Good to know.
[06:13:42] <Andreas Stenius> pull requests simply refer to a branch, so push new commits to that branch effectively updates the pull request..
[06:14:05] <Andreas Stenius> that "live" part of pull requests are often overlooked by new contributors.. ;)
[06:14:47] <Jarimatti> That's actually a nice feature, I think. And one that I would not have noticed. :)
[06:15:05] <Jarimatti> It's hard to type smileys using US keyboard layout! :)
[06:15:31] <Andreas Stenius> you get used to it :)
[06:15:46] <Jarimatti> (I mostly use the Finnish layout)
[06:16:13] <Jarimatti> So, when doing stuff do it in a feature branch. Makes lives easier, I suppose.
[06:16:50] <Andreas Stenius> at first I only switched to US layout when working in shells, but now I'm only using the sweidsh layout when I have to type in swedish.. :p
[06:17:01] <Andreas Stenius> Yeah, branches keep you sane ;)
[06:17:17] <Andreas Stenius> also, working with branches in git is a breeze :D
[06:17:29] <Jarimatti> Yeah, to both cases. I've used to do shell in Finnish layout so the US is difficult for me. :D
[06:17:33] <Andreas Stenius> tried branches in hg, it was a mess
[06:18:24] <Jarimatti> I love git branches! We tested it in my day job but for executive reasons we're still (mis)using svn. Gah, the horrors...
[06:19:33] <Jarimatti> Shell is fun when the dash changes place in the keyboard. It does make for interesting commands occasionally... :P
[06:21:08] <Andreas Stenius> heh :p that's why I'm sticking to one layout as much as possible.. at first, the smileys where in fact the worst... but now it's the inverse, I can't get the smileys right when I switch back... :p
[06:21:50] <Jarimatti> The parenthesis are neatly just one off... It's awful! :)
[06:21:55] <Andreas Stenius> and my wife constantly complains about not finding the correct symbols when sitting in front of my computer...
[06:22:04] <Andreas Stenius> indeed
[06:22:15] <Andreas Stenius> and so is &
[06:22:53] <Andreas Stenius> but I love that I can type both ` and ~ without them getting messed up :p
[06:23:03] <Jarimatti> I solved the problem by having 2 keyboards. One with Finnish layout, one with US and RU (cyrillic) keys.
[06:23:22] <Andreas Stenius> ah
[06:23:46] <Andreas Stenius> wouldn't help me much, as I don't look at the keys anyway... :p
[06:23:49] <Jarimatti> The days of USB. I remember the days of PS/2 and whatever was before that...
[06:24:25] <Andreas Stenius> COM ports! yay :) (still use them occassionally, but not for keybords nor mice) :p
[06:24:38] <Jarimatti> Actually, come to think of it: I don't look the keys if I type in Finnish layout. But I need to look when typing in UK layout)
[06:24:45] <Andreas Stenius> and have to resolve to their USB connected counterparts, too..
[06:25:01] <Jarimatti> COM is nice, properly KISS for me.
[06:25:16] <Andreas Stenius> it is, yes. got downhill from there...
[06:25:39] <Andreas Stenius> no, I have to get a little something done before breakfast...
[06:25:49] <Andreas Stenius> it was nice chatting with you :D
[06:25:51] <Jarimatti> Yeah. And the cabling is often wrong (Tx and Rx...) :P
[06:26:03] <Andreas Stenius> :P
[06:26:19] <Jarimatti> Ah, I've got to leave for work. Nice chatting with you too, I'll see if I can make a pull request at one point.
[06:26:54] <Jarimatti> Thanks for the chat, see you later etc. :)
[06:29:48] <Andreas Stenius> just ask if you need any help ;)
